Beryl Kay, President Beryl Kay is Executive Director of the San Francisco Family Foundation which provides support for senior citizens in the Bay Area. She recently retired as Human Resources Director of of the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. In the private sector, she has held positions in business relations and administrative management. She was a 20-year board member, president and volunteer with American Youth Hostels.
Evelyn Ballard de Ghetaldi, M.D., Chair Evelyn is a graduate of Stanford Medical School, and a Professor Emeritus in Student Health, San Francisco State University. She served as University Physician and Lecturer in Health Education. She has been National President of Camp Fire Boys & Girls; Director, Health Benefits and Insurance, Retired Public Employees Association; Vice-President, National Forest Homeowners; and Director and President, Action For Nature, Inc. She has also has published numerous articles on family life, first aid, and health education.
Seth Bramble Seth currently serves as the Executive Director of the Sacramento City Teachers Association, advocating for the teaching profession and serving as a resource for more than 3,000 members. He has taught diverse groups of students in San Jose, California from grades 2 through 6, and worked with young people in a variety of settings, including group homes for children who are developmentally disabled, in juvenile halls, and at Hidden Villa, a summer camp dedicated to environmental and cultural awareness. He spent 15 years at Hidden Villa as a camper, counselor, and program director for the Community Leadership Training program. While there he created a community garden in East Palo Alto, and a high school curriculum focusing on the environmental justice movement.
Leslie Endicott Leslie Endicott is a senior editor at VIA, a travel magazine of the American Automobile Association. She also manages the Web site www.viamagazine.com. She has worked in magazine publishing for more than thirteen years. Before publishing, Leslie taught high school English for five years in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Cori Coccia Cori Coccia was born in Ventura, CA, grew up in Orange County, and moved to San Francisco in 1998. In her youth she watched the backyard of her hometown turn into a sea of suburbs and has developed a passion for protecting wilderness. Her personal and professional mission is to educate, inspire and create access for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn from, protect and enjoy the natural world. She has an M.S. in Environmental Education from Lesley University's Audubon Expedition Institute and has lived in communities both nationally and internationally. She has worked as an outdoor guide for sea kayaking, rafting, climbing and backpacking programs and has spent the last four years as a Field Science Educator with the Headlands Institute teaching environmental science, leadership and teambuilding to youth in the outdoors. Cori is currently employed as the Community Program Manager at Girlventures, an organization that empowers adolescent girls to develop and express their strengths.
Shimon Schwarzschild Shimon Schwarzschild is a writer, editor, and consultant. A cofounder and past President of Action For Nature, he was also founder of the Assisi Bird Campaign, and cofounder of the Assisi Nature Council and the Native Yew Conservation Council. He served as Executive Director of American Youth Hostels (Golden Gate Council), and of the Whale Center. He was also a member of the Commission on Education and Communication of the World Conservation Union (IUCN), and has been volunteer chair of many San Francisco community environmental, and political organizations seeking to improve urban livability. He retired from the USDA Forest Service where he worked as technical publication editor. Before devoting his life to environmental education and nature protection, Shimon was an electronic engineering executive.
Adrienne Scroggie Adrienne Scroggie was a junior and senior high school teacher in Illinois and California until her retirement. With her husband, Alan Scroggie, she co-organized the first San Francisco inner-city high school ecology club, the Mission High Ecology Club, which successfully operated a recycling program from 1969 to 1998. The club used the revenues from the recycling program to introduce students to nature by taking them on affordable car camping, back packing, river rafting and snow trips. Many or them were traveling outside of the city for the first time. Board of Advisors
